What Is an Over Calculation Sheet? [CricVision Explains]
Think of it as a time-to-overs converter.
In professional cricket:
- 1 T20 over = 4.25 minutes
- 1 ODI over = 4.5 minutes
The sheet converts lost time into lost overs.
The simple formula CricVision teaches beginners is:
Overs Lost = Time Lost ÷ Time Allowed Per Over
But in official matches, umpires also account for extra time, intervals, and playing conditions. That’s why CricVision has created separate Tables (Table 1 to Table 4) for different rain scenarios.
Real Example 1: Rain During the Chase
This is the most common scenario in IPL and T20s.
- Second innings scheduled: 11:45 AM
- Rain starts: 12:00 PM (15 mins played)
- Rain stops: 12:45 PM
- Total time lost: 45 minutes
Calculation:
45 ÷ 4.25 = 10.58 => 10 overs lost
Original 20-over innings becomes a 10-over innings. New timing becomes 12:45 PM to 1:13 PM.
What changes?
- Powerplay becomes 3 overs
- Bowler limit becomes 2 overs each
This is the basic idea behind rain-affected match overs calculation that CricVision explains with official BCCI tables.
Real Example 2: Rain Delays the Second Innings Start
First innings ends. There is a 60-minute break. But it rains for 90 minutes.
- Extra rain: 90 – 60 = 30 minutes
- Overs lost: 30 ÷ 4.25 = 7 overs
- Result: 20-over chase becomes 13 overs
This is why a 90-minute delay doesn’t always mean a 10-over loss — the extra time buffer saves the game.
Powerplay & Bowling Limits After Rain
This is where most fans get confused. When overs are cut, everything else changes as per ICC rules.
A 10-over game is NOT just a shorter game. Fielding restrictions are reduced, and no bowler can bowl more than 2 overs.

Over Calculation vs DLS – Know The Difference
