Recognising this evolving mindset, entrepreneurs Vivek Singh and Gaurav Mishra came together to build Ninty9 Garages, a premium car detailing and automobile customization destination in Gwalior.
What started with an interest in exploring opportunities within the automobile ecosystem has, in just one year, resulted in the transformation of 250+ cars, establishing Ninty9 Garages as a growing name in Gwalior’s premium car care segment.
Two Founders, Two Different Journeys
The story of Ninty9 Garages is also the story of two entrepreneurs who arrived at the automobile business from very different professional backgrounds.
Vivek Singh, 29, comes from a strong academic and business background. An alumnus of Scindia School, he completed his B.Com from Motilal Nehru College, University of Delhi, followed by an MBA from St. John University, England. After completing his education, Vivek joined his family business.
But his long-standing passion for automobiles made him keen to build something of his own in the automotive sector. That passion eventually brought him together with his family friend Gaurav, leading to the creation of Ninty9 Garages.
Gaurav Mishra, an engineer by education and someone who describes himself as a “risk taker by profession,” completed his engineering in Computer Science before beginning his corporate career with Siemens, where he worked in a business handling communication systems for the Indian Army. He later joined HCL Technologies.
However, the conventional corporate path did not appeal to him for long. Wanting to explore his home region, Gaurav returned to Gwalior and started Gwalior Plus, an initiative focused on exploring the Gwalior-Chambal region and understanding its people and opportunities. His entrepreneurial journey subsequently took him into political campaigning and several other ventures before he eventually entered the automobile space with Vivek.
Today, the founders have divided their responsibilities according to their strengths. Vivek focuses on business growth and expansion, while Gaurav manages day-to-day operations.
Identifying an Opportunity in Gwalior
The idea for Ninty9 Garages originated from an existing connection with the automobile industry. The founders already had a petrol pump and were exploring businesses that could complement their automotive ecosystem.
They considered several possibilities, including a tyre shop and a conventional garage. However, during their research, they identified an opportunity in premium car detailing and 4×4 modifications.
According to the founders, the segment was relatively underserved in Gwalior, while some existing players were compromising on quality. Instead of entering the market with another generic detailing studio, the founders wanted to build a business around quality, genuine products and professional processes.
This philosophy led them to partner with Turtle Wax, one of the world’s leading car care brands, as well as other established brands and product manufacturers.
Building a Business Around Trust, Not Just Services
For Ninty9 Garages, differentiation goes beyond offering PPF or ceramic coating.
The company has built partnerships with established names including Turtle Wax, Nippon Paints and Bimbra, enabling it to offer customers genuine products and, where applicable, authentic product warranties.
This approach reflects a simple philosophy: customers investing in premium car care should know exactly what they are paying for and should have confidence in the products being used on their vehicles.
The company currently offers premium car washes, professional detailing, ceramic and graphene coatings, Paint Protection Film (PPF), and 4×4 modifications.
Rather than positioning itself merely as a place where customers can get their cars “shiny,” Ninty9 Garages aims to build a complete premium automobile care experience.
The Challenge Behind the Shine
One of the biggest challenges during the early days was finding skilled professionals capable of delivering the level of workmanship the founders envisioned.
PPF installation and premium detailing require specialised skills, and finding the right talent locally proved difficult.
To overcome this challenge, the founders initially brought professionals from Guwahati and simultaneously began training their own team. Building this capability took considerable time and investment, but it helped the company develop a stronger foundation for its operations.
For a young business, investing in people before aggressively scaling the business has become an important part of Ninty9 Garages’ approach.
250+ Cars and a Vision Beyond Gwalior
In just one year, Ninty9 Garages has already transformed more than 250 cars, giving the founders an early validation of their business model.
But for Gaurav and Vivek, the journey is far from over.
Their vision is to create a premium automobile destination where customers don’t have to compromise between quality, genuine products and professional workmanship. With Vivek driving growth and expansion and Gaurav focusing on operations and execution, the founders believe their complementary strengths can help Ninty9 Garages build a larger presence in the premium automotive care ecosystem.
